“Call Us First”

When you need medical care now:

Your doctor’s office is the best place to go for medical care.  As your Patient Centered Medical Home, they know you and your medical history best and can help you determine the best place for care when you’re sick or injured.  Speaking to your doctor’s office will help you to know whether to see your doctor or to go to the Emergency Department.

Call your doctor’s office first. There is always a provider on call for your medical concerns; their discussion with you is likely to follow these common guidelines:

Call your doctor’s office for:

  • Coughs, colds, sore throat
  • Fever or flu symptoms
  • Skin rashes
  • Skin infections
  • Sprains and strains
  • Eye redness or irritation
  • Minor cuts
  • Minor burns
  • Minor eye injuries
  • Migraines/Headaches
  • Minor breathing difficulties
  • Fainting
  • Ear pain
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Minor allergic reaction
  • Vaccinations
  • Dizziness

Go to the Emergency Department or call 911 for:

  • Severe chest pain
  • Severe injuries
  • Bleeding that won’t stop
  • Severe abdominal (belly) pain
  • Severe difficulty breathing
  • Signs of stroke, changes in vision or speech, numbness and tingling
  • Head injury with loss of consciousness
  • Poisoning/swallowing an object
  • Electrocutions
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Large bone fractures
  • Severe burns
  • Seizures
  • Any other condition you believe is life threatening

When in doubt, call the people who know you best!
